The Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) is seeking a new Tribology Tester integrated with a 3D Optical Profilometer for their Eastern Currency Facility (ECF) in Washington, DC. The purpose of this contract is to test and characterize ink abrasion and plate wear properties by measuring coefficient of friction (COF), wear in-depth/wear rate/wear volume, and capturing high-resolution 3D images of worn surfaces. The contract aims to support plate failure analysis during plate printing and improve the production process.

The Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) is a component of the Department of the Treasury that designs, engraves, and prints U.S. banknote currency and other U.S. security products. In support of these operations at BEPs Eastern Currency Facility (ECF) located in Washington, DC, the BEP has a need for a new Tribology Tester integrated with a 3D Optical Profilometer. The BEP Office of Quality Operations (OQO) seeks to provide the ability test and characterize ink abrasion and plate wear properties by friction through measurement of coefficient of friction (COF), wear in-depth/wear rate/wear volume, and high-resolution 3D images of worn surface.
